Ten very happy days | Birthday in the Sinai desert | Dahab, Egypt

Gülsah and me had some awesome days. She came a day before her 25th birthday - we hadn´t seen eachother for nine weeks or so and so felt a bit strange but made me very happy at the same time. Finalllllllyyyyy I picked her up in Sharm after her horrifying flight (which lasted about 24 hours) and we spent the first evening  just walking around in Asalah, catching up on a few things, spoiling Rox, drinking wine and having a good time.

I had made a good plan for the following day (her birthday) and didn´t tell her anything about it. We woke up and had a nice breakfast at the beach, went to H20 and timed the upcoming dives with Frank. At about four o´clock I told her, we´d have to go now. We got picked up by a jeep and drove for around 20 minutes to some remote area, where we switched our transport to a more economic way: dromedars. After another hour or so we arrived in a small village/place/café where we had some beduin tea. The setting was amazing: in between those mountains, the beautiful nothing surrounding us, some wine and smoke - what else could we wish for? As the night fell, we had some great food cooked for us and went up a small mountain, where a small house was lit and a surprise was waiting on Gülsah - a birthday cake with her name on. I then gave John (the guys who came with us and who had organized everything) a sign with my headlamp aaaaaand he lit a fire below in the shape of a heart. It couldn´t have been more than this I think and Gülsah was completely speechless (everyone knowing her, knows it´s kind of a rare event :-)) I then gave her the first „present“ - a book I had actually found in the bin a couple of days earlier (German - Arabic) - but she didn´t really seem to care, because everything was so awesome already. She looked at me wondering what the hell I was giving her hihihihi I then gave her the right present: another book wrapped up in paper. She opened it and found a Nitrox course book. Nitrox is basically enriched air, meaning oxygen is added to the normal amount of oxygen in air (21%). It has several advantages, that I will explain the next couple of days. Gülsah was totally stunned by the whole day and her present and for me this meant: mission accomplished :D

The next days were spent with diving. We had an awesome dive at Eel gardens this one morning, where we were lucky enough to saw an eagle ray, a hawksbill turtle and a big Milkfish. I also found two nudibranches - I can´t help it, but I am really in love with those beautiful and colourful snails. We completed our Nitrox course just in time to dive with Nitrox when we went out to Ras Abu Galum by boat - hell yeah, we are both Nitrox certified now! We had an awesome day on the boat and three great dives in this protectec area - everyone was smiling at their best at the end of the day. After a couple of beers in the evening we went to sleep damn early (which is acually quite usual after two or three dives) dreaming of sharks, manta rays and whales. What a life...

As it always is, all good things come to an end. And Gülsah had to leave to continue her Ecotoxicology master in Aachen. It´s quite hard for me as well but harder for her. She´s going back into the grey, wet and cold winter. Of course, I´ll stay here in the warm and beautiful Dahab, but without her it´s not the same. I am still very happy, but all of you out there in a relationship, know what I mean. One essential part is just missing.

But once again, I have to say these days were awesome. We´ve spent lots of time together talking, chilling, sitting, diving, laughing, drinking, smoking (shisha), socializing, dreaming and just hanging around together. A couple of weeks to go and she´ll be back for a christmas dive :-) Rox and I will be waiting for her...
